Job Title: Digital Capabilities Product Owner

Salary: £44,800 - £55,000

Location: Cambridge/Hybrid

Contract: 1x Full Time/Fixed term (10 months)

                    1x Full Time/Fixed term (12 months)

Are you looking for a new challenge, working on platforms and solutions used by thousands of English Language teachers and millions of learners worldwide?

Do you have a passion for getting to the heart of a user or customer problem and producing simple solutions to complex problems?

Do you have experience leading cross-functional teams as an Agile Product Owner or in a Digital Publishing context?

If you have answered yes to the above questions, we would love to hear from you. We are currently looking for two Digital Capabilities Product Owners to work on high-profile projects delivering digital language assessment and innovative solutions for personalised language learning content.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

As a Digital Capabilities Product Owner, you will have the unique opportunity of joining a newly integrated, ambitious, customer-centric team whose goal is to empower learning and enable better results for our learners and teachers across the globe, through our world-class learning and assessment Propositions portfolio.

As part of the English Product Group, the Propositions team play an integral role in the development and delivery of the business strategy. They are driving digital transformation forward in a disrupted market and looking at how best to use data and technology to provide high-quality solutions founded in pedagogical excellence for our customers.

As our next Digital Capabilities Product Owner, you will shape and develop the digital and data capabilities that underpin our digital learning and assessment propositions, working with stakeholders, customers and delivery teams. You will work directly within an Agile Scrum team representing customer requirements and ensuring we deliver to meet our business goals. You will lead on defining, prioritising and refining our roadmap of digital & data capabilities through ideation, delivery and post go live activities.

About you

You are an enthusiastic and focussed Product Owner, skilled at understanding business value and impact and capable of working with a wide range of colleagues to deliver effectively and flexible to business goals in a fast-paced and complex environment.

You'll demonstrate a passion for delivering digital products which meet customer needs and requirements. You'll have leadership skills with the ability to drive and motivate teams. To be successful in this role, you will be motivated with a positive attitude and an enthusiasm to take on new challenges, and able to grasp complex problems quickly.

A clear communicator, you are able to manage conversations with stakeholders and delivery teams: expressing the user value of the solutions you are prioritising; handling difficult conversations about deprioritisation; and turning ‘problems to solve' into clear epics and user stories for the delivery teams.

Both of the roles are on projects which are already in-flight, and will include working to deliver on an existing backlog of requirements, as well as defining and prioritising new requirements, on the basis of your interactions with internal stakeholders and customer data.

Ideally, you will have proven experience working with agile methodologies, and accreditation and experience as a Scrum Product Owner, or a closely related discipline such as Agile Product Management. A knowledge of the English Language Learning business and/or Assessment methodologies is an advantage, but is not essential.

 Rewards and benefits

We will support you to be at your best in work and to live well outside of it. In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a world-class, flexible rewards package, featuring family-friendly and planet-friendly benefits including:

  • Group personal pension scheme
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Life assurance up to 4 x annual salary
  • Private medical and Permanent Health Insurance
  • Green travel schemes
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays

We are a hybrid working organisation, and we offer a range of flexible working options from day one. We expect most hybrid-working colleagues to spend 40-60% of their time at their dedicated office or location. We will also consider other work arrangements if you wish to work more flexibly or require adjustments due to a disability.

Ready to pursue potential? Apply now.

We review applications on an ongoing basis, with a closing date for all applications being Tuesday 16th January 2024 and interviews are scheduled to take place on the week commencing Monday 29th January 2024.

Please note that successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory background checks including DBS due to working in a regulated industry.

Please note that Cambridge University Press & Assessment will not ordinarily be able to provide sponsorship for vacancies of less than 12-months in duration. Applicants must therefore have an existing right to work in the UK to be eligible for this position.

You'll belong to a collaborative team that's exploring new and better ways to serve students, teachers and researchers across the globe – for the benefit of individuals, society and the world. Sharing our mission will inspire your own growth, development and progress, in an environment which embraces difference, change and aspiration.
