Job Title: Senior Operations Manager, Assessment Materials

Salary: £42,000 - £56,800

Location: Cambridge or Coventry/Hybrid

Contract: Permanent/Full time (35 hours per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Operations Manager to join a passionate, fast-paced operations environment providing world class support to our millions of customers and qualifications around the world.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the OCR Assessment Materials team within the newly formed Assessment Materials and Logistics Tower in the joint International and UK Operations Division.

We are responsible for the operational production and delivery to our customers and learners of assessment materials (mainly question papers), enabling secure and robust examination delivery for both OCR and International centres and learners. We are at the beginning of our organisation design and integration journey, and as part of the senior management team you'll be key to helping us shape our future direction including the move to digital.

As a Senior Manager, you will lead and oversee production and logistics for confidential materials (questions papers) and associated processes essential for the successful delivery of OCR exam series. You will play a key role in defining and implementing strategies and policies to ensure and enable the timely and secure delivery of high-quality question papers and materials compliant with regulatory and customer expectations and requirements. You will be responsible for series planning and readiness, internal reporting, and data management activities throughout the assessment materials production lifecycle.

Your skills as a people manager will be key as you lead your team in delivering these vital business processes, proactively monitoring and developing performance standards, engaging and facilitating professional development, and safeguarding the team's general wellbeing.

Strong communication skills, and continuous collaboration with colleagues across the wider organisation, will be key to your success in the role - working to manage and resolve escalations and complex queries, enable and deliver business change, and improve customer and stakeholder experiences.

As part of the Assessment Materials and Logistics Tower senior management team you will also play a key part in helping to define, shape, and realise our future organisational design and structures, and our culture, behaviours and ways of working as we bring the two current teams (OCR and International) together; building a new integrated team reflecting the best of its constituent parts and equipping us for our digital future.

About you

You will be a highly motivated, resilient leader and people and process manager, collaborative and personable with an inquiring can-do and problem-solving attitude and approach.

You will have demonstrable experience in leading significant sized teams in the delivery of complex, high stakes, time critical processes; managing and resolving customer facing challenges; and delivering business change activities.

Ideally you will possess knowledge of OCR products, customers, the exam cycle, our materials production cycles, and CUPA systems used in the delivery of examinations processing; and have experience working in a regulated context.

Other key requirements include:

  • Experience of working to tight, challenging deadlines.
  • Confident decision-making, prioritisation, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent business and interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal; including e-mail, letter, face to face and telephone), with an eye for accuracy.
  • Confident and proficient user of IT

If you would like to know more about this opportunity and what will make you successful, please see the full job description attached.

We will support you to be at your best in work and to live well outside of it. In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a world-class, flexible rewards package, featuring family-friendly and planet-friendly benefits including:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Private medical and Permanent Health Insurance
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Group personal pension scheme
  • Life assurance up to 4 x annual salary
  • Green travel schemes

We are a hybrid working organisation, and we offer a range of flexible working options from day one. We expect most hybrid-working colleagues to spend 40-60% of their time at their dedicated office or location. We will also consider other work arrangements if you wish to work more flexibly or require adjustments due to a disability.
