The Technical Product Owner role sits in the Development and Application Services function of our Exam Technology Organisation (ETO). Via matrix-managed teams, you will work across multiple products and applications ensuring that solutions delivered exceed the expectations of our stakeholders.

Your responsibilities as a Technical Product Owner:

As a Technical Product Owner, you are responsible for making sure applications or solutions deliver value to the business and customers. You will become a subject matter expert on the applications and systems you work on. Technical Product Owners also have a good understanding of the associated business processes and expectations of users and their experiences, enabling you to challenge and support decisions around software development and prioritisation of work. Activities you will perform include:

  • Requirement Gathering and development of user stories
  • Management of product backlogs
  • Helping to define the product vision and road map
  • Working closely with the developers and user experience (UX) teams to define solutions
  • Coordinating testing activities and supporting incidents and problems
  • Agile coaching and Scrum mastering 

 

You will be ideal for this fast paced and complex role if you are willing work UK hours of 09:00 – 17:00 BST (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM PH Time), Monday to Friday. However, there will be a need on occasions to work outside these hours to support incidents, staffing issues and support releases into production. This could include weekend working, although this is rare.  The role may involve working with our offshore and outsourced teams that work outside of UK hours, generally there is no need for working these hours, but a flexibility and appreciation of the constraints this may place on communication should be acknowledged.

Additionally, having the below qualifications would also give you advantage:

  • You can demonstrate that you apply the Modern Agile values to your work.
  • You will have a passion for technology, which should be supported by good technical skills or the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • An understanding of software development methodologies and cultures (specifically Agile) would be highly desirable.
  • This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
  • You will have experience in project management, business analysis and process improvement as well as an understanding of web-based technologies.
  • Ideally you would have had exposure to some of our business processes and technology, or experience working for an exam board.
