Description

Research and Advisory Team Managers play a pivotal role in the Research and Advisory business. They help grow Gartner’s business by shaping a climate that allows experts to grow and thrive in their careers, while assuring effective execution of Gartner’s business strategy through optimal and balanced direction of work and resourcing.  Team managers assure we are striving to delight our clients through activities such as the creation of quality deliverables that help us to win new clients and improve client retention as well as providing excellence in all manners of client interactions and engagement.

As an Managing Vice President within Sourcing, Procurement and Vendor Management, you will manage a global team of experts in the Software and Cloud Negotiation practice that specializes in providing strategic advice to clients negotiating proposals with software & cloud mega-vendors who play in many markets.  Examples of the vendors are: Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow Workday and others.  These experts review proposals and provide differentiated commercial advice to how to negotiate and manage vendors, as well as analyzing trends impacting how software & cloud software is sold, and distilling that information into actionable insights for our clients.

The expertise and insights that the experts within the Software and Cloud practice provide have a significant impact on retention and growth, and as such this team is part of a practice that is well positioned to demonstrate Gartner’s ability to deliver exceptional value related to clients’ mission critical priorities around cost optimization and effective purchasing, which are more critical than ever given the uncertain economic environment, as well as ensuring they invest well to grow.

What you’ll do:

  • Directly oversee a blended team of analysts and advisors who are focused on Mega vendor Software and Cloud Negotiations.

  • Focus on the EVP (Employee Value Proposition) and expert retention as a talent and performance advisor through coaching, performance feedback, development, career pathing and recruitment as necessary.

  • Lead your team to continuously improve their performance as individual experts, as well as the performance of the team and the overall Software and Cloud Negotiation practice. 

  • Inspire the team, and bring a high level of excellence in coaching to drive content innovation and thought leadership by coaching and championing the creation of high quality, distinctive and enduring insights that sets up years of healthy growth

  • Collaborate with leadership peers to strengthen not only your team, but all the teams within the SPVM group.

  • Foster an inclusive and engaging environment and drive Gartner’s commitment to DE&I throughout all aspects of the business: hiring practices, associate development, client service and community support.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in a Gartner leadership, current team manager or MVP. (At least one year) Previous management experience outside of Gartner also an asset

  • 10+ years’ work experience, and a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.  Masters preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills and a data driven approach to decision making.

  • Great communication skills, and an ability to craft and deliver strong messages to motivate associates and other stakeholders

  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills

  • Strong track record of managing change, and bring others along in change

  • A Business collaborator who proactively engages across business units to drive client and business outcomes.

  •  A disciplined approach to prioritization, able to manage your own time and the team’s time effectively, focusing on the most critical activities. Strong ability to balance multiple priorities and successfully adjust resources as needed.

  • Experience with Mega vendor negotiations a plus

  • Demonstrated success leading a diverse, global team.

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 184,000 USD - 255,990 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan. Our talent acquisition team will provide the specific opportunity on our bonus or incentive programs to eligible candidates.
