Télécom Paris, a school of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom) and a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, is one of the top 5 French general engineering schools.
The mainspring of Télécom Paris is to train, imagine and undertake to design digital models, technologies and solutions for a society and economy that respect people and their environment.
The Distributed Computing research team of Telecom Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris is looking for a tenure-track Associate Professor (Maître de Conference) in theoretical computer science, with a specialization on the fundamentals of Distributed systems. The candidate is expected to strengthen the research force of the school by contributing to ongoing and future projects related to fundamentals and systems aspects of Distributed Computing.
The areas of interest include (but limited to): complexity bounds for large-scale synchronization protocols, concurrent data structures, algorithmic basics of cryptocurrencies and blockchains, decentralized trust and economic incentives in distributed systems, formal methods in Distributed Computing, distributed machine learning, network algorithms.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Designing and delivering courses
- Supervising and advising students on their research work
- Contribute to the publication of scientific articles
- Research and develop relationships with industry and establish contractual collaborations. Write research projects and respond to calls for proposals.
- Participate in and contribute to the scientific activities of the host Group (seminars, defence, juries).
- Give presentations and lectures.
Job requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need solid expertise in theoretical computer sciences, as well as significant teaching and research experience. You will need to be able to convey your knowledge in a clear and accessible way to students, as well as being able to conduct cutting-edge research in your field. We are looking for someone with a PhD.
Required skills, experience, and knowledge
- Excellent academic record in your field of expertise;
- Excellent command of spoken and written English.
- If you do not speak French at the moment you are hired, you must commit to reaching a proficiency in French within a reasonable time frame.

Selection
The selection process takes place in 5 stages:
- Elimination of applications that do not meet the required qualifications
- Discussion with the host team to draw up a shortlist of candidates
- Preliminary interview with Human Resources
- Hearing by the recruitment committee and ranking of shortlisted candidates
- Final interview with the Director of Télécom Paris
