Job description
Thematic and research challenges
We are looking for a PhD in computer science, specialized in Software Engineering, preferably qualified in the 27th section of the CNU. The candidate is expected to carry out research in Software Engineering applied to the field of the digital twin, and particularly its cybersecurity.
In fact, the digital twin is a fast-developing theme of great importance to industry. There is no real methodology or tools for designing a digital twin (DT). What's more, once the DT has been designed, there's also the problem of hosting it while complying with stringent cybersecurity constraints, as the DT is a sensitive piece of software containing numerous models and data. In addition, the DT can control its reference system, and could therefore allow an attacker to control the reference system (which is generally a production system).
The research work expected of the candidate must contribute to making the development and/or operation (use) of a digital twin easier and cheaper for a company, while not significantly increasing the cyber risk.
In this context, the researcher could, for example, develop work on (1) software architecture and modeling for the secure digital twin, (2) methods and processes for secure digital twin development, (3) security risks associated with the digital twin and/or deployment and software infrastructures for the secure digital twin. He/she will be expected to strengthen the team's digital twin activity and contribute to current projects and collaborations.
Eco-system and context
IMT Atlantique internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading technological university under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technologies, ranked in the three main international rankings (THE, SHANGHAI, QS).
The position is open on the campus of Brest within the computer science department. The position is intended for the P4S team (https://labsticc.fr/fr/equipes/p4s) of the Lab-STICC laboratory (https://labsticc.fr). The P4S team focuses its research activities on methods, models and tools for building and verifying safe and secure systems and software. The team focuses on the application of these proposals in fields such as cybersecurity and the industry of the future.
Numerous activities take place more widely within IMT Atlantique around the themes of the position. The candidate will be able to interact with other research teams in the IT department and other departments at the school, such as SRCD in Rennes and DAPI in Nantes.
IMT Atlantique has privileged relationships with major industrial national and international partners, as well as a dense network of SMEs, start-ups, and innovation networks. With 290 permanent faculty members, 2000 students among which 300 PhD students, IMT Atlantique produces every year 1000 publications and raises 18M€ of research funding.
Education
Located on 3 attractive campuses, IMT Atlantique has a strong international dynamic while remaining on a human scale. In its various master programs (4 engineering programs, 14 master’s programs), students are confronted with real-life problem situations through a variety of teaching approaches. The ambition is to train high-potential young professionals, capable of mobilizing a broad spectrum of skills in real-life situations, in all socio-economic fields, including research.
The candidate will contribute to the teaching of computer science, more specifically in the fields of Software Engineering, software development and cybersecurity. In particular, he/she is expected to be particularly active in teaching Software Engineering, programming and cybersecurity in core engineering courses and in our Collaborative Software Development (DCL) and Software Engineering for Distributed Systems (ILSD) programs.
Particular attention will be paid to the candidate's investment in aspects associated with project management.
More concretely, the teacher/researcher is expected to develop courses on the digital twin and the industry of the future, and to participate in the development of project management activities.
Involved both in the core curriculum and in the elective courses, he will take part in cross-disciplinary activities in conjunction with companies: tutoring projects/internships, oral presentations, coaching, etc. He will be invited to propose new projects, programs and innovative teaching approaches. www.imt-atlantique.fr/en/study
