Thematic and research challenges
This position of Associate Professor in Computer Networks aims to consolidate one of the strategic themes: network virtualization, 5G/6G, Internet of Things or Cybersecurity, both in terms of teaching and research. In particular, it will strengthen the "Computing and Networks" teaching activities, with an expertise in network architectures, protocols and routing.
Research activities will be carried out within the IRISA Laboratory, in one of the teams of Department 2 (Networks, Telecommunications and Services), including Adopnet, E4SE, Ermine, OCIF and SOTERN.
The profile is open in Computer Science and Networks and involves the following expectations:
- Conduct cutting edge research in Computer Networks, with an emphasis on either network virtualization, 5G/6G, Internet of Things, or Cybersecurity
- Develop new activities, in line with the scientific project of the host team, through structuring projects and academic and/or industrial collaborations at national and international level (European projects).
- Secure external funding and contribute to research projects (such as ANR, France2030, European projects, etc.)
- Publish high-impact articles in internationally recognized scientific journals

The position is open on the campus of Rennes within the SRCD (Network Systems, Cybersecurity and Digital Law) department.
It involves about 60 people, including 27 permanent teacher-researchers, working in six research teams (Adopnet, DSN, E4SE, Ermine, OCIF and SOTERN) on access and core networks, digital Law and Strategy, pervasive environments, network performance, IoT, and cybersecurity.
Multi-disciplinary, the SRCD department is built around cross-disciplinary axes that structure research, teaching and innovation, which are:
- data, making it available and sharing it
- the ecological transition, mainly in the context of digital technology
- the security of systems and networks.
What's more, SRCD department contributes to standards committees (with particularly interesting productions at the IETF and ISO), which enables us to be close to the economic sector, with significant transfers to industry.
Education
Located on 3 attractive campuses, IMT Atlantique has a strong international dynamic while remaining on a human scale. In its various master programs (4 engineering programs, 14 master's programs), students are confronted with real-life problem situations through a variety of teaching approaches. The ambition is to train high-potential young professionals, capable of mobilizing a broad spectrum of skills in real-life situations, in all socio-economic fields, including research.
The candidate will contribute to teach “Computer Science and Networking”.
Involved both in the core curriculum and in the elective courses, he will take part in cross-disciplinary activities in conjunction with companies: tutoring projects/internships, oral presentations, coaching, etc. He will be invited to propose new projects, programs and innovative teaching approaches. www.imt-atlantique.fr/en/study

Teaching and Mentoring activities:
- Design and deliver high quality courses in the field of networking for several training programs, in particular from networking essentials to routing protocols, encompassing network architectures, protocols, internal and external routing.
- Contribute to other teaching topics, in particular fundamentals of signal processing and/or digital communication, or virtualization and next-generation networks.
- Contribute to student assessment and continuously enhance teaching programs
- Contribute to the mentoring and advising of students in their research projects and theses
In the context of this position, particular and complementary emphasis will be placed on the skills of candidates in the fields of Computer Science and Networking, with expertise in network architectures, protocols and routing. A background in Computer Science, signal processing skills and/or scientific training in the physical layers of communication systems will be highly appreciated.
