OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:

  • Responsible for the management of specific Company owned vessels, following international standards, reporting to the Installation Fleet Manager which decide which vessel is under the responsibility of the Vessel Manager.
  • This has to be carried out through the assistance of a ship management company, with which a specific Contract has been signed.
  • Three main aspects have to be monitored (which are also reflected into the ship management company Contract):
  • To ensure the vessels are compliant with international standards/rules/laws as far as Health and Safety, Environment, Occupational aspects are concerned.
  • To ensure the vessels are regularly provided with all materials/supply/equipment needed for the continuity of operations and maintenance.
  • To ensure the vessels are kept regularly manned by crews with the necessary expertise and formal certificates requested for each specific role.
  • All aspects mentioned above have to be controlled in full consistence with the Company Management Plan defined at the beginning of each year, specifically with reference to fixed costs, non-recurring expenses (such as Opex, drydocks), investments, personnel plans.
  • In general the Vessel Manager is responsible (mainly for cost monitoring and contractual aspects), in collaboration with technical functions (Installation General Operations Manager and Asset Operations Manager), of the definition of the modifications to layout and cable equipment which could become necessary in specific cable installation projects.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the full consistence of the fleet expenses with the Prysmian Management Plan defined at the beginning of each year, specifically with reference to fixed costs, non-recurring expenses (such as opex, drydocks), investments, personnel plans.
  • Assisting the Fleet Manager to the creation of the Management Plan for vessels under his responsibility and the preparation for multiple year investment plan.
  • Ensure the full control of the purchasing process performed through the ship management company (request for quotation, purchasing authorization, check of final invoice in compliance with authorization).
  • Resourcing of competent suitably qualified and experienced offshore staff for the vessels under his responsibility, still taking into consideration that the crewing is directly performed by the ship management company, therefore supervision and control is requested.
  • Ensure that appropriate offshore resources are identified and involved in pre-project planning for successful delivery of projects.
  • In case of direct relationship with shipyards & equipment suppliers (not through the ship management company), liaise with the suppliers together with Purchasing Function, under the supervision of the Fleet Manager, and ensure prompt delivery of services and products with a proper management of budget information (cost, schedule and delivery time).
  • Cooperate (mainly for cost monitoring and contractual aspects) with technical functions (Installation General Operations Manager and Asset Operations Manager) in the definition of the modifications to layout and cable equipment which could become necessary in specific cable installation projects.
  • Cooperate (mainly for equipment provision, cost monitoring and contractual aspects) with technical functions (Installation Manager and Equipment Manager) in the selection and charter of the vessels of opportunity (when needed in some cable installation projects), and subsequently in the mobilization and operation works (selection of cable equipment spread, definition of vessel layout).
  • Ensure that vessel documents and certificates for both vessel and marine personnel are maintained according to industry standards and properly available to the Installation Department.
  • Responsible for personal safety and for ensuring work is undertaken using safe working practices in accordance with Company HSE procedures.
  • The duties contained in this job description are not exhaustive and the job holder may be asked by management to undertake reasonable duties associated with this function

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proven track and consistent exposure to maritime environment and ship management practices
  • Knowledge of working under Marine regulations in a ship management structure with regulations such as ISM, SOLAS CDM, ISPS, MARPOL
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience as a ship technical superintendent role or similar and advantage
  • Understanding of Offshore Subsea Construction techniques and relevant HSE practices and the varied operational processes and techniques that can be adopted is preferred
