Description
Space Rider System Engineering Officer in the Space Rider Programme, Flight Programmes, Directorate of Space Transportation.
Under the direct authority of the Space Rider Space Segment Manager, you will be responsible for the technical implementation of system-level end-to-end technical activities.
Duties
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
- supervising the end-to-end System Engineering synthesis aspects for the space segment, ground segment and payloads (such as performance, budgets and margins) and the coherence, definition, harmonisation, specification and verification of the system internal interfaces;
- in support to the the Space Rider Space Segment Manager:
- following up on the space segment end-to-end system definition, adaptation/development, qualification and operation, including the multi-purpose cargo bay (MPCB) and payload interface specification;
- following up on the AOM/RM end-to-end System Engineering aspects (such as mission analysis, visibility analysis, thermal and structural analysis, trajectories, aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics and flying qualities);
- following up on the AOM/RM end-to-end system synthesis aspects (such as performance, budgets, margins, and internal and external interfaces);
- following up on the RM refurbishment, reusability, operability and maintainability aspects, including turnaround cycles and readiness for subsequent flights in coordination with the Reusability and Maintenance Manager;
- following up, in coordination with the Space Rider Ground Segment Manager, on the ground segment and landing site System Engineering and synthesis aspects;
- following up, in coordination with the Space Rider Payloads and Exploitation Manager, on payload aggregate System Engineering and synthesis aspects;
- monitoring the space segment and ground segment end-to-end system testing in coordination with the Space Segment and Ground Segment Managers, including payload aspects in coordination with the Payloads and Exploitation Manager;
- supervising the Space Rider system external interfaces, including launch system, landing site and safety in coordination with the Safety Focal Point;
- supporting line management for activities concerning regular reporting to upper management.

Education
A master's in engineering or a related discipline is required for this post with a focus on launch systems and technologies.
Additional requirements
You should have:
- excellent technical knowledge of space transportation systems;
- excellent technical knowledge of System Engineering and related disciplines (at least one of the following: structure, propulsion or avionics) for launcher systems and/or orbital platforms and/or re-entry systems;
- demonstrated project development experience including preparation and execution of major ESA reviews.
In addition, you should have:
- excellent cognitive, analytical, planning and organisational skills;
- the ability to anticipate problems, solve complex issues and relate situations to their context;
- the ability to reach solution-oriented, pragmatic and timely decisions of a high standard and integrity.
Previous experience in Space Rider activities would be an asset.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
