We are looking for a highly engaged and broadly experienced Senior Network Engineer responsible for providing senior-level Network Engineering leadership, with recognized specialist skills focusing in the provisioning, implementation, support and management in the attainment of availability, integrity, security, and efficiency of Cambridge University Press and Assessment's network infrastructure. As a key member of our team, the Senior Network Engineer engages with the dynamic Network Team with colleagues from the UK, Philippines and across the globe, supporting enterprise standard network technologies, analysing several medium to complex project requirements to design adept technical network-architectural solutions, delivering excellent service to our customers and following industry best practice and emerging trends valuable to the organisation.

What makes you the ideal candidate in this role?

A confident communicator who is comfortable operating in a range of business and technical environments, happy to challenge assumptions and finding creative solutions to problems. 

Key responsibilities will include:  

  • A recognized expert having several Network Subject-Matter-Expertise and having passed two or more Cisco Certified Network Professional certifications or equivalent certifications and proven experience;  and is proactive in the identification, recommendation of best practice, resolution, quality-assurance resource, and documentation of predominantly complex to medium tasks, changes, problem records, high priority incidents, to unique network challenges; and delegating and directing mid and junior network colleagues for straight forward to mid-complexity task;  with minimal to no supervision in a complex infrastructure environment.
  • Actively engages with team members and across various teams in finding and recommending the most effective solution, contributing abilities in coordinating, collaborating, designing, planning, configuring, building, optimising and troubleshooting issues in operating and maintaining a secure, resilient and sound Network Infrastructure.
  • The last internal-network-escalation-point and is expected to raise, coordinate and chase resolutions with 3rd Party Support Vendors and External Suppliers. The Senior Network Engineer performs knowledge transfers and actively mentors Mid and Junior Network roles in a technical capacity.
  • Champions a standard for Network Management and Architecture inclusive of audit, daily monitoring, delivery, security hardening, support and documentation, capacity planning, new office deployments, and continuous service improvement, for International Office Network Infrastructure, UK Office Infrastructure and Data Centre Infrastructure; encompassing resiliency of links, traffic load balancing, wired and wireless connectivity.
  • Recommends, supports prioritisation and implementation, methodical tracking of identified tasks on the Networks Road Map, promotes a Device Life Cycle Management strategy, collaborates in coming up with Network Capacity Plan, and recommends training plans to address current and future skills-gaps.

Technical certifications for CISCO, CheckPoint, F5, Guardicore, AWS, Azure, VMWare, Windows, Linux, ITIL, ISO 270001, Agile, Six Sigma and alike will be a “PLUS”, but hands-on experience in the technologies and the potential to adopt and grow is considered.
