Job Description Summary

This position serves as the Compliance and Privacy Manager, dedicated to and residing in the regional markets (Midlands, Pee Dee, or Catawba), for MUSC Hospital Authority/Medical Center. This manager reports to MUHA’s Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer and Director of Compliance with executing the organization’s system-wide Compliance and Privacy programs. This position objectively manages and oversees dozens of service line directors and managers who additionally serve as functional compliance/privacy liaisons. As an independent and objective agent to these functional liaisons, the Compliance/Privacy Manager conducts regular meetings to monitor, evaluate, and resolve, if necessary, Compliance and Privacy questions, concerns, and audit deficiencies, as well as addresses applicable rules and regulations. This is not a remote position. On-site presence in the Florence-area is required.

Job Description

The Compliance and Privacy Manager performs multiple functions:

(1) Assists with the annual risk assessment, (2) remediates facility-specific compliance/privacy allegations; (3) develops and/or administers on-going compliance education; (4) conducts and/or oversees a variety of auditing and monitoring of activities, 5) researches and responds to compliance related questions; (6) stays abreast of and communicates changes to applicable regulations; (7) develops and oversees the functional compliance liaisons and their respective work plans; (8) facilitates and responds to any third-party compliance/privacy investigations; (9) provides reports to the necessary councils, committees, and other forms of leadership, and (10) maintains the compliance/privacy database for all site-specific activities conducted.

Conducts regional-specific Compliance and Privacy maintenance audits; provides direction and training to applicable facility directors, managers, and supervisors on outcomes.

Oversees the functional compliance officer program by ensuring department specific compliance/privacy audits are completed and applicable education provided.

Additional Job Description

A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant work experience required, or a Master’s degree plus 3 years. 

Professional experience in regulations, auditing, and compliance preferred, however other work experience may substitute for these preferred skills and higher degrees if prior positions illustrate effective managerial and communication (written and oral) skills, proficient analytical and critical thinking, and sound judgment and discretion in dealing with patients, visitors, physicians and staff. 

Must have or be willing to achieve and maintain a certification in healthcare compliance (CHC).
