Job title: Postdoctoral Scientist- Cellular and Molecular Oncoimmunology

As part of the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza, PNRR), IRCCS Istituto Clinico Humanitas has started the public selection procedures for recruitment under the projects regarding the Enhancement and strengthening of biomedical research in the NHS.

TITLE AND BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Uncovering novel targets and pathways to enhance the efficacy of combination immunotherapy for lung cancer KMN309-CUP: E23C24000220006

Immunotherapies with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the treatment of solid tumors, including lung cancer. Combining ICIs with conventional chemotherapy has proved successful, but only in a subset of patients. Despite ICIs reinvigorate dysfunctional T cells against the cancer, acquired resistance occurs due to additional suppressive mechanisms, e.g., alternative checkpoints, inhibitory cell populations and insufficient inflammation, among others. However, knowledge in this regard is limited due to the absence of longitudinal patient specimens. We will take advantage of a unique collection of primary and metastatic tumors before and after ICI, and use omics technologies to unravel the complex relationships between the immune system, the stroma and the tumor in resistant patients. We aim to discover major Cellular and Molecular mechanisms of resistance that will be further mined in preclinical models of lung cancer to enhance tumor regression.
