Within this Department, you will be part of the Short Tail underwriting Team.

Your job and daily missions:

JOB PURPOSE

The P&C business is core to the AXA Group and is operated in 20+ territories, with a wide mix of operating models, market shares and stages of development.

Group Underwriting Office is responsible for:

  • Steering and controlling a sustainable and profitable growth of AXA P&C activities worldwide, promoting excellence on both risk management and technical areas. This encompasses underwriting governance and rules, PAP (Product approval Process), PMP (Portfolio Management Process), and requires strong and tight cooperation with claims management, reserving, cat modeling and reinsurance cover.
  • Structuring the second line of defense organization and missions by developing, facilitating, and monitoring an effective risk and control framework (Exposure monitoring, Risk Appetite allocation and adherence, Reinsurance appropriateness).
  • Support underwriting initiatives on structured solutions and/or use of new technologies and Artificial Intelligence on underwriting process.
  • Initiate or promote innovative insurance solutions supporting Construction adaptation to climate change.

DIMENSION

The P&C Commercial UW Expert - Construction and DUA - is responsible for following

  • Construction/Engineering Products and LoB :
    • Construction All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR)
    • Decenial Construction products and schemes including Decenial Liability in France (RCD)
    • Engineering,
  • Short Tail - DUA underwriting meaning any AXA participation in schemes or products with a delegated underwriting authority to third parties. It notably includes Facilities. DUA schemes and products are under of GROUP P&C UNDERWRITING GUIDELINES -DELEGATED UNDERWRITING AUTHORITY

The P&C Commercial UW Expert - Construction and DUA stakeholders are:

  • Group Sustainability Team, Group Risk Management team, Group Legal, Group Finance (including BSID, PBRC, DCFG), AXA Global Reinsurance
  • All P&C entities (over 40 entities) or regions/markets (3) of the Group, especially Chief Underwriter Officers, Chief Risk Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Actuaries and Chief Claims Officers.

CONTEXT AND MAJOR CHALLENGES

Technical expertise in P&C Underwriting to identify, evaluate, monitor, and manage major insurance group’s Natural Events risks

  • Solid background in all Insurance and Reinsurance business aspects including extensive knowledge of the Group entities’ P&C activities as underwriting is closely linked to the local regulatory and legal specificities.
  • Actuarial skills as he will have to properly understand key metrics assessments of these perils

Ability to efficiently communicate and rally multicultural multidisciplinary teams,

  • Proven ability in organizing, driving, and realizing underwriting in-depth reviews
  • Ability to share knowledge with Finance, Risk consulting, underwriters, and actuaries to lead transverse projects and in-depth reviews require strong communication skills; proven ability in articulating ideas, dealing with senior management, and in being persuasive as to the value of his arguments
  • Solid coordination with entities (CUOs, CROs, P&C CROs, CCOs, etc.) and other GRM and GIE departments / teams and constructive relational skills

Autonomy, organization, flexibility, and capacity to adapt to new situations such as to carry unplanned workloads and a keen ability to adapt to team working practices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Define the Group Underwriting guidance for Construction Lob’s and step-up entities’ expertise to contribute to business development through a profitable underwriting.
    • Define the P&C Transport Underwriting guidelines and manage derogation requests of AXA Entities in the Application Letter Process. Within the process of referrals, chair the Construction Underwriting Committees
    • Contribute to the Gross Underwriting Limits (GUL) calibration for Group and local entities or regions/markets
  • Ensure the supervision of Construction Lobs and promote technical excellence via information and training to entities/region and professional communities.:
    • Develop the Group’s technical practices and culture together with local Technical professional families. Identify needs and develop and propose relevant trainings to support attainment of required technical skills
    • Identify best practices and organize sharing/training sessions with the different entities’ business families
    • Set up, participate to, and animate where requested, Technical and Risk Management communities with entities & markets
  • Define the Group Underwriting guidance for Delegated Underwriting Authorities’s and promote technical excellence via information and training to entities/region and professional communities.
    • Define the Delegated Underwriting Authorities (DUA) guidelines and manage derogation requests of AXA Entities in the Application Letter Process.
    • Identify best practices and organize sharing/training sessions with the different entities’ business families
  • Leverage Group/Local initiatives around tools, platforms, technologies, data and any other AXA Initiatives for risk assessment, pricing, and underwriting within his perimeter.
  • Support AXA Climate & Sustainability underwriting and Business Strategy and contribute innovative solutions supporting Construction adaptation to climate change.

Your Profile

MAIN COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCES

  • In-depth comprehensive knowledge and experience of P&C business operations including Underwriting, Pricing, Claims, Reserves and Reinsurance, enabling to have a thorough understanding of business insurance rationale, processes and profitability and any potential P&C risk.
  • Advanced knowledge in P&C actuarial and underwriting fields to efficiently challenge the local heads of underwriting and pricing experts.
  • Solid interpersonal and organizational skills as it is essential to successfully manage multiple aspects and interactions with numerous internal and external stakeholders,
  • Persuasive opinion to challenge and orient the P&C strategy and operations at Group or Entity level.

Technical and professional skills:

  • Deep knowledge of Property, Construction,
  • Easy manipulation of complex financial figures (Current Year Combined Ratio, All Years Combined Ratio, Economic Combined Ratio, attritional LR, GWP, GEP, Short Term Economic Capital, …) connected to insurance activity monitoring
  • Reinsurance knowledge (treaties and facultative)
  • Recognized Expertise in loss prevention and risk engineering

Soft skills:

  • Natural leadership
  • Able to deliver high-level presentation in front of senior management or entities CEOs
  • Agility to work in a multifaceted P&C world (Local vs Group, Small vs Large entities, worldwide underwriting cultures),
  • Capacity to motivate and lead transversal teams, building collaborative working relationships, effective communicator, flexible
