- Job Purpose
To contribute to the Press's publishing programme in HSS by working with the Commissioning Editor on research, review, and by offering general assistance in working with authors, reviewers, and others in bringing projects forward and ensuring their successful publication, and assist with post-publication exercises as necessary. |

- Principal Accountabilities
Pre-commissioning and commissioning
- Be aware of developments in the field and have general awareness of current affairs.
- Assess BPFs and sample chapters.
- Identify reviewers and prepare material to be sent out, and ensure timely delivery of reviews.
- Work with the Commissioning Editor to commission/acquire authors and prepare and circulate Syndicate Papers.
- Prepare contracts for authors, editors, contributors and series editors.
- Undertake research for expanding author and reviewer base.
- Work closely with the Commissioning Editor on market research and competitive analysis to determine areas in which we should have new work.
Work on contracted titles
- Work closely with authors/editors/contributors/pre-press colleagues/others, answering queries and providing guidance as required for each project.
- Undertake clearance reviews as required.
- Provide content, layout and style suggestions.
- Undertake research on cover illustrations.
- Contribute to marketing and promotional work including writing blurbs and negotiating appropriate material with author and marketing.
General administration
- Maintain overall workflow.
- Keep clear, appropriate and up-to-date list-wide records and provide list-wide information as required.
- Make or requisition appropriate payments, as/if required.
- Ensure that relevant information on systems, including Centaur and SAP, is fully accurate and up to date.
- Work as part of a team.
- Attend external events as required, including relevant conferences and campus meetings, launches and discussions.
Additional Duties
To carry out any other duties that may be reasonably expected of you by your immediate manager or a colleague within appropriate timelines and work hours.

(a) Operating Environment: | Working with the CE(s). With strong emphasis on developing a market driven publishing programme, the job holder will also work closely with pre-press, sales, and marketing colleagues.

Graduate in Social Sciences with work experience of five years OR Postgraduate in Social Sciences with work experience of two years Excellent communication skills Aware and empathetic |
