Job Title: Head of Retail Sales, Americas, UK, Western Europe

Salary: $124,100-$150,000  USD

Location: Remote or Hybrid, New York

Contract: Full time, permanent

We're searching for a dynamic, motivational, and experienced book industry sales professional to lead our Trans-Atlantic Academic Retail Sales team through a sustained period of change, as we seek to grow the business in key areas and minimize decline in others.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

This is a key position within the Academic business, with significant revenue responsibility across a large geographical territory. The person who occupies it will play an important role in helping establish overall sales strategy within retail channels, with a particular emphasis on our high-profile trade list and our well-respected textbook list.

The Head of Retail Sales is responsible for achieving the sales budget for Academic product, in both print and digital formats, through retail channels, including wholesale, traditional retail and internet retail in the Americas, UK and Western Europe.

They will do this by leading a team of Retail Sales reps and key account managers, directing their activities in support of the wider Academic strategy and by personally managing a small number of key accounts and sales agencies.

They will also play a crucial role in helping shape our trade publishing list, providing market feedback and directly influencing pricing, packaging and printing decisions.

Please note: This role will generally consist a work week of 8am-4pm EST hours.

About you

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 10 years' publishing sales experience working with retail channels and 3 years' team management experience. They will have a deep understanding of the retail book market in either the UK or the US, and ideally of both, with an awareness of trends in all channels and the ability to analyse those trends to help set strategy.

They will be an inspirational leader for their team, working with them to identify and develop areas for growth, but also to minimize inevitable decline in others, while keeping the team positive and motivated. They will embrace change and help their team navigate its pitfalls and take advantage of its opportunities.

They will have strong commercial acumen as well as a customer-centric approach. They will be consultative, both with internal colleagues and customers, but also confident and decisive. They will have excellent time management, prioritization and delegation skills as this role covers a large territory with significant revenue responsibility.
