We are looking for a Head of Sales - Italy (and Malta agent) with strong commercial drive, customer orientation and leadership to join our Central South Europe team. This is an exciting career opportunity to work in a multinational, Global 500 company that makes global trade happen. We are targeting significant growth in Central South Europe (CSE) and in this position you will play a fundamental role in achieving our ambitious plan.

Reporting to the Area MD, the Head of Sales - Italy (include Malta agent) will be responsible for driving and delivering business and sales targets, advancing both our Ocean and in particular our Logistics growth agenda, formulating and executing Sales strategies and developing individual sales account plans as well as challenging and guiding a team towards top engagement and performance.

As a Head of Sales - Italy , the person will be accountable for understanding the customer needs and providing them with end to end integrated product solutions, delivering assigned sales targets, developing a world class sales team and ensuring highest levels of customer satisfaction for the segment.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery as per Area budget

  • Lead and set direction for the sales team according to budget- both on delivering ocean volume and growing revenue and optimizing profits

  • Coach and drive sales team to sell and grow non-ocean activities including supply chain and local products

  • Define and set targets for sales incentives and oversees forecasting and budgeting processes to be aligned with business goals.

Customer satisfaction

  • Actively monitor local NPS with the vertical/segment and drive local improvement to improve customer satisfaction

Manage stakeholders across the area, region, and global functions

  • Actively provide feedback to the vertical or segment lead based on customer feedback and insights

  • Feed business development managers with relevant leads

Build and develop a best-in-class sales team

  • Ensure succession plans are in place for key roles including own role

  • Coach direct reports for success and development

  • Manage team engagement

  • Develop vertical/segment sales skills

  • Leverages understanding of the local business environment to support development of the sales strategy.

We are looking for

The role will require a highly motivated individual, able to analyze data in order to guide the team to identify opportunities, to develop and execute the overall sales strategy in line with our growth targets. We expect you to be able to speak Italian and English fluently. Having a background in the logistics, maritime, freight forwarding industry is highly appreciated. We also envision you to have below:

  • Market knowledge, vertical/segment experience and proven track record in the CSE market

  • A Bachelor's degree with at least 15 years’ work experience in a commercial/Sales role within the logistics and supply chain industries (vertical/segment)

  • Breadth of managerial expertise to lead, engage and develop people

  • Proven ability to understand customer needs and offer mutually beneficial solutions

  • Supply chain expertise (to optimize Maersk share across products), solution selling, and inter-personal skills (stakeholder management, influencing skills)

  • Negotiation skills/procurement experience

  • Logistics product understanding including how to solve different customer pain points

  • Strategic partnering, financial acumen, matrix management, value co-creator, presentation skills
