Number of days: Approximately 8-10 days per month

Displaced and Refugee youth Enabling Environment Mechanism (DREEM) project
WUSC, through the DREEM project, plays a unique role as a technical assistance and strategic learning partner to the Mastercard Foundation and its partners. The DREEM project, a 5-year initiative, contributes to the Foundation’s commitment to meaningfully include refugee and displaced youth in their Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and Young Africa Works initiatives.
Through DREEM, WUSC will contribute to the Mastercard Foundation’s thinking and strategy development for its new refugee and displaced youth strategy and in creating a network of transformative leaders – inclusive of refugees and displaced youth, especially women – driving equitable socio-economic transformation in Africa .
The DREEM project focuses on two thematic areas:
Higher Education Inclusion: Support Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program partners and staff with the knowledge, capacity and networks to meaningfully recruit and serve refugees and displaced youth in Higher Education and transition to work and to work towards more inclusive societies;
Economic Inclusion: Support Young Africa Works (YAW) country partners and staff primarily in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia and also in other countries around the continent to gain the knowledge, capacity and networks to meaningfully include and develop programming that meets the unique training and employment needs, opportunities and aspirations of refugee and displaced youth, especially young women
Strengthening Economic Opportunities for Refugees (SEOR) to complement WUSC’s existing Learning through Education and Access to Employment Pathways (LEAP) project and provide refugee entrepreneurs, especially young women with improved access to market-oriented business support services that improve business and employment outcomes in Kenya.
Scope of the Assignment:
WUSC is looking for a consultant to support the activities of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program pillar of DREEM. Working closely with the DREEM Higher Education Inclusion Coordinator and the Deputy Project Director, the consultant will:
- Support the development of a transitions framework and operational guidance for refugee and displaced (RDP) youth from Higher Education to dignified and fulfilling work;
- Support the development of a communications outreach toolkit that guides Higher Education institutions (HEIs) on how to effectively communicate opportunities to RDP youth and their communities;
- Provide technical mentorship to the DREEM Higher Education Inclusion Coordinator;
- Provide French language support to the DREEM team for francophone Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program partners as needed;
- Support the development of a model that builds sustainable relationships between refugee led organizations (RLOs) and HEIs;
- Support the development of content for any convenings on Higher Education inclusion;
- Support the Higher Education Inclusion Coordinator in the development of content for Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program outreach events to camps and settlements across the continent;
- Lead the development of a cross-referral mechanism that links the pipelines of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and the WUSC Student Refugee Program (as well as other initiatives); and
- Support the WUSC team in identifying African institutions that can lead various initiatives in Higher Education inclusion for RDP youth.
Qualifications:
Candidates are expected to have:
- Demonstrated previous experience in Higher Education access, particularly for displaced youth;
- Significant experience in building relationships with Higher Education institutions and Higher Education/youth networks;
- Significant experience and expertise in complementary pathways programming;
- Strong knowledge of the Higher Education context and stakeholders on the African continent;
- Excellent written English and French language skills;
- Experience in mentoring and coaching staff members on concepts and best practices in Higher Education inclusion.
