Descrizione del lavoro

Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.

The Opportunity:

The Cellular Genetics Programme is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on iPSC derived organoid datasets in theHaniffa Group. The Programme is focused on cell-atlasing and aims to map tissues and organoids by combining single-cell transcriptomics, spatial genomics and computational methodologies to build full-transcriptome three-dimensional (3D) models of cells in their tissue context.

About the Team:

Muzlifah Haniffa is a dermatologist pioneering the applications of single cell genomics technologies to understand human development, tissue homeostasis, immunity and disease pathogenesis. A major research goal of her laboratory is to decode the development and functional maturation of the human immune system and whole embryo development. The Haniffa Group's research within the Cellular Genetics Programme applies disruptive cutting-edge single cell and spatial genomics techniques to study human development and adult healthy and diseased tissues. The group is a diverse mixture of wet and dry lab researchers and clinicians and collaborates closely with leading teams in single cell and spatial biology including Sarah Teichmann, Fabian Theis and Mohammad Lotfollahi.

About the Role:

You will analyse large single-cell genomics including spatial genomics datasets relating to organoid research to deliver key insights. You will be closely interacting with the wet lab team, driving organoid development by generating large-scale atlases, identifying key regulatory mechanisms, and perturbing them in silico thereby actively promoting hypothesis testing and translational research. You will work collaboratively with other researchers including bioinformaticians in the Haniffa group, Cellular Genetics programme including the IT team, EBI and international collaborators.

About You:

You understand key concepts in genomics, data processing and high-throughput data analysis. You will ideally have experience in the management and analysis of very large data sets, using or developing statistical/machine-learning methods for the analysis of large-scale data sets. You have the clarity to understand complex computational concepts, apply them to address proposed biological questions and present the results to diverse audience.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

Technical Skills:

  • PhD in relevant subject area, or on track to be awarded your PhD within 6 months of starting the role
  • Proven ability to deliver research projects
  • A track record of demonstrating research excellence and expertise in your area of research
  • Knowledge, skills and experience as appropriate to research area e.g.

o    Ability to analyse and interpret data with strong quantitative/computational skills

o    Programming and bioinformatics skills

Competencies and Behavioural Skills:

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with wide range of persons of differing level, abilities and knowledge
  • Foster an inclusive culture where all can thrive and diversity is celebrated
  • Team player with the ability to work with others in a collegiate and collaborative environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and results and present orally to groups
  • Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills
  • Ability to priortise, multi-task and work independently
  • Detailed orientated, strong organizational and problem-solving skills
