BeamLine Operation Manager (BLOM) on ID20

Beamline ID20 is dedicated to the study of electronic and magnetic excitations via hard X-ray resonant and non-resonant inelastic scattering (X-ray Raman) spectroscopy. The main scientific areas of application are condensed matter physics, geo- and earth-sciences, materials sciences, chemistry (including energy storage and conversion), and cultural heritage.

You will be strongly involved in the instrumental developments and maintenance of the beamline ID20. You will participate in the ongoing in-house research programme, enhance the operation of the beamline, and provide support to external user groups as local contact.

You will play a major role in the operation, commissioning, maintenance, and further development of ID20 stations. User support will be a key activity, which will provide opportunities for collaborative work at the frontiers of the respective field. Time will be set aside for in-house research and, as BeamLine Operation Manager, you will be given the opportunity to participate in the beamline's research programme in close collaboration with the beamline team and external users.

- You hold a higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma offering 300 ECTS) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related scientific discipline. A PhD would be an asset.

- Knowledge of beamline instrumentation, and proven experience in beamline alignment and operation, X-ray optics (including dynamical theory of diffraction), methodological development and modeling, data acquisition, data processing, and computer programming are highly desirable skills.

- A minimum of five years of experience in hard X-ray inelastic scattering as well as the ability to interact with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural staff and facility users is essential.

- English proficiency (working language at the ESRF).

- Good scientific writing skills are an asset

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
