A new opportunity for an Assistant Librarian has arisen in our team. This is a new role within the recently formed Strategy, Partnerships and Innovation department, and provides an opportunity for an experienced librarian with a commitment to Open Science and Open Access Publishing to join our library team.

About the Role:
You will be working under the Library Manager to revamp and refresh our library and our library services.

This role is integral to the delivery of our Open Science Roadmap and your work will be supporting the Sanger Institute’s founding principle that science is a public good. You will be expected to take on projects and drive them forward, while also providing services to users. Your expert knowledge will support the wider work of the new department as it seeks to maximise the impact of Sanger’s science. 
Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Supporting the Library in the day-to-day running of the full-range of library services, with responsibility for the provision of service to library users and acting as a general point of contact for library services and inquiries  
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders, developing library services to support researchers and support the delivery of the department’s work
  • Day-to-day management of systems supporting the recording of and reporting on Sanger publications
  • Liaising with the Informatics and Digital Solutions team and appropriate external suppliers to support the technical development of the library management system
  • Reviewing our publication workflow and working with the Library Manager to develop library services and processes that support Open Access publishing
  • Working with the Library Manager, under the management of the Open Science Lead, to identify developments in Open Access publishing and continue to develop our library services to ensure we are delivering on our Open Science commitments
  • Driving projects forward to bring them to fruition, prioritising workload and providing advice and support to the department


Essential Skills:

  • A librarianship/information management qualification or significant experience in a relevant library/information service
  • Experience working in academic libraries and the ability to deliver a high quality information service.
  • Experience working with Library systems and supporting publication workflows
  • Good inter-personal skills
  • Proven IT skills


Other Information: 
Salary range: £30,807 - £36,970 per annum, dependent on skills and experience
