Our heritage includes two successful NASA flagship missions: Artemis-1 and DART. These missions proved our capability from LEO to deep space while simultaneously showcasing our high reliability. This posting is for the U.S. facility located on the Space Coast in Brevard County Florida.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Attitude, Determination and Control Systems Engineer in the US office, you will report to the Head of Engineering and will support Argotec’s global Systems Design teams. Support includes the design, development, qualification, and testing of Attitude Determination and Control Systems (ADCS) for small satellites.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to work independently and autonomously while being backed by the support of an experienced multi-functional team from Argotecs’ headquarters in Italy.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)

  • Definition and management of technical requirements and specifications
  • The technical trade-off, sizing, and architecture selection of PS and ADCS hardware
  • Development of ADCS suite for SmallSat platform
  • Design/architecture and selection of components
  • Implementation of embedded ADCS SW control loop
  • Implementation of ADCS control loop on HW
  • Verification and Validation plan and execution of ADCS suite
  • Interface implementation between ADCS and PS modules
  • Supporting Performance analysis, modeling, and simulations
  • Supporting the definition of mission conops and platform configuration
  • Management of system budgets with a particular focus on deltaV, momentum, and pointing budgets
  • Support AIT, AIV, acceptance, and qualification activities
  • Support for risk assessment and FMEA

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Team player and a “Do what it takes” attitude
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Engineering, or other related STEM discipline and typically 10 or more years of Engineering or relevant experience (relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of education)
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency
  • Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Strong background in any of the following areas
    • Knowledge of SmallSat propulsion system (chemical, cold gas, and electrical)
    • Knowledge of SmallSat AOCS suite
    • Knowledge of spacecraft attitude dynamics and Control theory
    • Knowledge of spacecraft attitude determination techniques (Kalman Filtering)
    • Knowledge of GNC sensors and actuators
    • Experience with momentum management strategies
    • Experience with running test campaigns on ADCS equipment
    • Experience with MIL, PIL, HIL testing campaign for ADCS loop
    • Experience with Flight AOCS SW Autocoding and Validation on HW
    • Experience with the Definition and implementation of SW/HW interfaces between the control board and ADCS equipment
    • Management and verification of technical requirements
    • Advanced knowledge of Matlab, Simulink, Python and C/C++
  • Great problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in the Space or Defense
  • Familiar with Aerospace standards and tailoring
  • Previous experience developing a standalone ADCS systems
  • Experience with CubeSat/NanoSat/SmallSat platforms
  • Experience of LEOP and real-time operations of ADCS subsystem
  • Spacecraft real-time operation/execution of AOCS maneuvers
  • Knowledge of propulsion system and interface with ADCS loop
  • Knowledge of orbital dynamics and SmallSat navigation
  • Experience in writing technical proposals for future business opportunities

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat the same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Occasionally lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Rarely exposed to loud noises
