Realistic modelling of the cerebellar cortex

The aim of the BLUE BRAIN PROJECT is to develop and validate a detailed model of the cerebellum at the cellular level. This research involves several phases: reconstruction of the basic microcircuit using the "Brain Scaffold Builder 4" platform, geometric deformation of the model to fit the curvature of the cerebellar structure, population of the project with neurons derived from digital atlases of the brain (Blue Brain Atlas and Allen Brain Atlas), simulation and validation of the model. This model will allow to test different hypotheses on the functional and dysfunctional mechanisms of the cerebellum circuit and its contribution to the generation of brain dynamics. Furthermore, single cell models will subsequently be included in microcircuits involving cortex, thalamus, basal ganglia and cerebellum in both normal and pathological conditions (EBRAINS2.0 project)
